A Discussion Paper prepared by the Australian Government’s independent skills and workforce advisory body, Skills Australia, notes that Australian industry is capable of meeting many of the forthcoming supply needs of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The Paper was launched today by Senator the Hon Kim Carr, Minister for Defence Materiel, at the Pacific 2012 Forum in Sydney.

On 12 May 2011 Trade Minister Dr Craig Emerson and Dr Anand Sharma, India’s Minister for Commerce and Industry, announced the commencement of negotiations on a bilateral free trade agreement (Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement) between Australia and India.

The recent Chinese New Year at The Asia Business Connection's 2012 Lunar New Year Dinner and International Showcase, was held in Parramatta. This annual event celebrating the Year of the Dragon, provided members and guests with an outstanding night of networking and entertaining speakers, as well as Asian food and traditional Chinese acts, music, and dancing.

50 years in the city - MatthewsFolbigg, a leading legal practice in Parramatta, will celebrate its 50
th anniversary this year. The practice has grown rapidly since its early beginnings in 1962 when two brothers, Brian and John Folbigg, established one of the first specialist property law practices in Parramatta. Paul Matthews began his practice in Blacktown in 1970, specialising in areas of property and commercial law. The two practices merged in 1997 to form MatthewsFolbigg.

New work health and safety (WHS) laws replaced the occupational health and safety (OHS) laws in NSW on 1 January 2012. These new laws will provide greater consistency, certainty and clarity across Australia making it easier to understand your workplace health and safety duties. Businesses and volunteer organisations that operate over several states will be able to initiate nationwide safety policies and procedures.
