Wow, Alcoa’s Month of Service never ceases to amaze me! Our people just get out there into the community and make such a difference to so many organisations and individuals. What our people did in hours as crews, teams and families would have taken many organisations weeks, months or in some instances may never have even got off the ground.

The Clean Technology Investment Program and the Clean Technology Food and Foundries Investment Program will provide grants to help manufacturing businesses to invest in energy efficient capital equipment and low emissions technologies, processes and products. The Programs are expected to be open to applications in early 2012.

Riverside Oaks Golf Resort is thrilled to announce it has been awarded a prestigious Australian Bridal Industry Academy (ABIA) award. Networking in the region - Western Sydney has increasing concentrations of industry yet low rates of organised networking and representation. This impacts on the region’s ability to engage in public debate and meaningfully influence policy, according to Parramatta City Council’s economic development strategy. Several Sydney-based organisations have expressed interest in broadening their networks and activity in Western Sydney: The Property Industry Foundation, the Institute of Company Directors, the Sydney Business Chamber and the Property Council of Australia.

Tis the season to recycle, according to global aluminium company, Alcoa of Australia as it announces a new Alcoa Foundation partnership with environmental organisation, Planet Ark. Dedicated to bringing about improvements in environmental sustainability through global investment in „reduce, recycle, replenish‟ campaigns Alcoa Foundation is pushing hard to promote greater recycling rates and reuse of materials worldwide.

The Green Team made up of six volunteers from management to administration staff who are committed to helping the environment by reducing our electricity, paper. In 2010 the Green Team was awarded Bronze Status from the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (now called The Department of Environment and Heritage) in the same year was awarded St.George Bank Star of the Year for Environment category.

Seventeen of Blacktown regions most talented year 11 and 12 students received awards for excellence in the workplace last Month. The award categories included: Work Placement, Traineeship, Apprenticeship or Independent Employment Advisory Service (IEAS). The Awards Dinner, now in its 8th year, took place at the Blacktown City Council’s Nirimba Room and guests included Parents, School Principals, Education, Community and Industry Leaders. WSBC's Charity of the Year, Westmead Medical Research Foundation (WMRF) raised a grand total of $10,608 at our major events in 2011. As the year comes to an end, we would like to thank everyone who has made a generous donation towards WMRF and encourage you to continue in the spirit of giving this holiday season.
The Foundation will be running a ‘Guinness World Records ™ Attempt’ for most people wearing a surgical scrub cap’ this Australia Day at the Blacktown City Council Australia Day celebration.
