Workplace Bullying – What Every Employer Must Do

Thursday 15th November 2018, 11.00am AEDT

Bullying can take root within all workplaces. Bullying can take many forms and often remain undetected to everyone but its victims.

Employers have critical legal obligations to ensure a safe work environment and must be alert to the potential for bullying to occur. If left unchecked, bullying claims can cause workplaces to spiral out of control, and destroy employee morale and productivity. Amongst other things, workplace bullying can lead to workers compensation claims (and the resulting premium increases), extended sick leave, breach of contract claims, bullying or adverse action applications to the FWC, WHS complaints to the regulator, costly lump-sum negligence claims and a loss of corporate reputation.

In this webcast, Matthews Folbigg lawyer Peter Doughman will:

  • define workplace bullying and describe recent developments in the Fair Work Commissions’ Anti-Bullying jurisdiction;
  • outline the essential ingredients for an effective bullying and harassment policy; and
  • explain the essential steps that employers must take to identify and manage claims of workplace bullying in the modern world.
