Australia's 3rd Largest Economy

Sound West - Australia's First Landmark Music + Technology Festival

Sound West Music + Technology Festival is coming to Parramatta March 30 - Apr 3 2022, bringing together the biggest brands in music and tech from around the globe. Over 3 huge days of live music and 2 days of conferencing, Parramatta will come alive with talent and inspiration.

Since 2016 the Western Sydney Business Connection has been working with the region's tourism sector to grow the visitor economy. Western Sydney’s pivotal developments like the Nancy Bird Walton International Airport, Sydney Science Park, the Aerotropolis, Sydney Zoo and the Powerhouse Museum drive the evolution of the visitor economy and reshape the workforce for Sydney’s West. The eclectic mix of cultures and perspectives will also prove fertile ground for new creative talent in the region.

In 2018, and in response to our tireless work in the visitor economy, the NSW Premier at the time, The Hon. Gladys Berejiklian MP, committed seed funding for a new festival for Western Sydney. The Western

Sydney Business Connection, in collaboration with Business Western Sydney, was tasked with developing the event concept, getting it off the ground and taking the region’s key stakeholders on the journey.

The extensive three year consultation process required working with the state government, local councils, artists, local businesses, the music industry and cultural institutions to develop an event that truly reflected our region, had the buy in of our stakeholders and importantly filled a gap in the market and event calendar.

On November 3rd 2021, the Minister for Tourism and Western Sydney, The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP, officially announced Sound West - Australia's very first music and technology festival. Sound West will comprise of a two day conference and a three day music festival to be held at various venues across Parramatta.

The Music and Technology Conference will take place at CommBank Stadium on the 30th & 31st March 2022. The conference will provide young creators, professionals and entrepreneurs within the technology and music industry the opportunity to explore and experience the unique pathways that exist in their fields in 2022. The conference will incorporate keynote addresses, workshops, panels, one on one mentoring sessions, live podcasting and unique interactive activations.

Additionally, the festival will come to life through a number of live music experiences running from the 1st - 3rd April 2022, featuring local, national, and internationally established and emerging artists. The festival will be a mix of stand-alone events, integrating existing live event promoters, live performance venues, festival / tour promoters, music companies, brands and industry bodies.

The event will not only drive visitor spend by filling our region's hotels, restaurants and venues, it will also deliver more than 200 jobs for local artists, sound engineers, graphic designers and event staff. Longer term economic impacts of the festival will no doubt result from showcasing our immense talent and positioning the region as the home of emerging creative industries, technology and innovation.
