
To help businesses discover, compete for and win Australian Government contracts, the Department of Finance offers quarterly free online workshops. The workshop schedule and information about how to book a place is available on the Selling to Government website.
The workshops are aimed at businesses new to selling to the Australian Government and those who are looking for tips on developing competitive tender responses. There are currently two workshop modules available with more to come later in 2025.
Workshop Module: An Introduction to Australian Government Procurement for Suppliers
This session is an introductory session to help potential suppliers understand how to participate in Australian Government procurement and contracting.
It covers:
- Why sell to the Australian Government?
- What the Australian Government buys and how
- Procurement methods and industry engagement
- How to start the process to sell
- Responding to an approach to market
- What to expect if you win a contract
- What to expect if you don’t win a contract.

Workshop Module: Building Your Best Tender Response
This session provides businesses with practical steps for developing tender responses.
It covers:
- A brief overview of the Commonwealth Procurement Framework
- How Australian Government organisations approach the market
- Good practices for responding to an approach to market
- Tender response writing tips and key elements of a competitive response
- Common pitfalls and tips on avoiding them.
